Choosing childcare is one of the biggest decisions families make, and it’s rarely just about availability or cost.
It’s about trust.
It’s about routine.
And it’s about knowing your child is supported, even when life changes.
From January 2026, updates to the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) aim to make early learning more accessible and predictable for families across Australia. At Stride Early Learning, we want to help families understand what’s changing and how to plan ahead with confidence.
What’s Changing with the Child Care Subsidy?
From 5 January 2026, the government is introducing what’s commonly known as the 3-Day Guarantee.
This means that families who are eligible for CCS will be able to access at least three days (72 hours per fortnight) of subsidised childcare, regardless of work or study hours.
Families who meet participation requirements such as work, study or volunteering or who are eligible for exemptions, may still access higher levels of subsidised care, up to 100 hours per fortnight.
The key shift?
Access to care becomes more consistent, even when life isn’t.
Why This Matters for Families
We work with families every day, and we know that not everyone fits a neat, predictable schedule.
Some parents:
• Work part-time or shift-based roles
• Are returning to work gradually
• Are studying, caring for others, or managing changing commitments
These reforms recognise that reality.
By guaranteeing a baseline level of subsidised care, families can:
• Plan routines with greater certainty
• Reduce stress around eligibility changes
• Maintain consistency for their children
And for children, that consistency of familiar faces, routines and environments makes a real difference.
What This Means for Families at Stride
At Stride, we see early learning as a partnership.
As these changes approach, our role is to:
• Help families understand what they may be eligible for
• Talk through care options that suit individual needs
• Support smooth transitions and consistent routines for children
We don’t believe families should have to navigate policy changes alone. Whether you’re planning for 2026 or simply want to understand what’s ahead, our teams are here to guide you openly, honestly and with your family in mind.
Planning Ahead for 2026
While the reforms don’t come into effect until January 2026, now is a great time to start thinking about:
• Your likely care needs
• How your work or study may change
• What consistency looks like for your child
Starting the conversation early allows families to plan with confidence and gives children the best possible continuity of care.
Childcare isn’t just about eligibility or hours.
It’s about feeling supported, informed and confident in your choices.
At Stride, we’re committed to helping families understand what’s changing — and what it means for them.
