The Stride Scoop

The Stride Scoop

Welcome

As we move further into the year, it’s been great to see children continuing to grow in confidence within their environments. Routines are now familiar, friendships are strengthening, and many children are becoming more independent in their day-to-day experiences.

For families, this time of year often brings a new rhythm. Balancing work, family commitments and everyday routines can shift from month to month, and we understand that this journey isn’t always straightforward. Our role is to provide consistency and support wherever it’s needed.

Across our centres, we focus on creating environments where children feel secure, supported and ready to learn each day.

Thank you for being part of the Stride community. We look forward to continuing to support your child’s development, confidence and wellbeing throughout the months ahead.

The Stride Early Learning Team

THIS MONTH AT STRIDE

The past month has been full of energy across our centres, with children settling into routines, building friendships and exploring new experiences each day.

As the seasons begin to shift, we’ve also seen a natural change in learning themes, with more focus on creativity, collaboration and hands-on discovery.

Easter brought an extra sense of excitement across our centres, with children taking part in Easter hunts, shared afternoon teas and seasonal activities that encouraged connection, participation and plenty of smiles. At Karrinyup, families came together to enjoy these moments, creating a warm and engaging environment for everyone involved. See more on the Stride Karrinyup Facebook Page

At the end of March, children also enjoyed a day inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Reading the story together sparked excitement as they followed the caterpillar’s journey. A highlight was a caterpillar made from a recycled box, which children loved interacting with as they used their imagination to β€œfeed” it and bring the story to life.

Moments like these support confidence, connection and a love of learning, while helping children build an understanding of the world around them.

In addition, Our April Vacation Care program was a fantastic success at our Wattle Grove centre, with a wide range of activities designed to keep children engaged, active and having fun.

Across the program, children enjoyed everything from creative experiences like tie dye and crafting, through to movement-based activities including yoga sessions and sports day. The themed days were a highlight, especially Wacky Wednesday, where the centre was filled with colour, creativity and plenty of laughs.

DATES & REMINDERS

As the school holidays come to an end, many families will begin settling back into their usual routines. For our younger children, this can sometimes mean a shift at home as older siblings return to school, mornings change, and daily rhythms adjust.

It’s completely normal to see a short period of adjustment. Maintaining consistent drop-off times, sleep routines and familiar patterns can help children feel secure as things settle back into place.

UPCOMING PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

ANZAC Day – Saturday 25 April – (Observed Public Holiday, Monday 27th April)

All centres will be closed for the public holiday. Please keep this in mind when planning your week.

Note, as part of our initiatives you can select a replacement day via our Holiday Notification Form

Enrolments & Schedule Changes

If you are considering changes to your child’s days or looking to secure additional bookings, we encourage you to speak with your centre team early to ensure availability.

SAFETY & CULTURE

At Stride, safety and culture are built through everyday experiences that help children understand their environment, their role within it, and how they connect with others.

At Ardross, children recently took on the role of safety inspectors during a yard safety check, exploring the outdoor space to identify potential hazards. Through this hands-on experience, they developed awareness of their surroundings while building a sense of responsibility for shared spaces, an important skill that extends beyond the playground.

In our Pre-Kindy room at Midland, children have been engaging with a worm farm as part of their daily routine. After mealtimes, they help collect food scraps and take turns feeding the worms, learning what belongs and what doesn’t. These simple, consistent actions are helping children build an understanding of sustainability and their impact on the world around them.

At Baldivis, toddlers explored a recycled art experience using a range of materials including boxes, rolls and cartons. As they painted and experimented with textures, children showed curiosity, shared resources with their peers and worked together to create a collaborative piece, supporting both creative expression and early social development.

These experiences sit alongside moments like our Holi celebration at Stride Baldivis, where children explored colour, creativity and cultural expression in a shared environment. Opportunities like this help children build understanding, inclusion and a strong sense of belonging within their community.

Through these everyday moments, children are not only kept safe, but are actively learning how to care for themselves, others and the environment around them.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Supporting children’s wellbeing extends beyond the centre, with simple habits at home playing an important role.

As we move into the cooler months, a helpful focus for families is maintaining consistency in routines. Keeping regular sleep times, offering warm, balanced meals and encouraging outdoor play where possible can all support children’s immune systems and overall wellbeing.

MONTHLY WELLBEING REMINDER

A favourite from Stride Early Learning Midland centres, this simple and nutritious meal is a great way to include extra vegetables in a way children enjoy.

Hidden Veg Spaghetti Bolognese

A classic, budget-friendly recipe that is easy to prepare and perfect for sharing at home.

Ingredients

  • Spaghetti
  • Beef mince
  • Carrot (finely grated)
  • Zucchini (finely grated)
  • Mushrooms (finely chopped)
  • Onion and garlic
  • Crushed tomatoes and tomato paste
  • Beef stock or water
  • Dried herbs (oregano or Italian mix)
  • Optional: a small amount of sugar to balance acidity

Method

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and cook onion and garlic until soft.
  2. Add mince and cook until browned, breaking it up well.
  3. Stir in grated carrot, zucchini and mushrooms, cooking until softened.
  4. Add tomato paste and herbs, cooking briefly to develop flavour.
  5. Pour in crushed tomatoes and stock or water.
  6. Simmer gently until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve over cooked spaghetti.

Tip: Finely grated vegetables blend into the sauce, making them less noticeable while still delivering important nutrients – a simple way to support healthy eating at home.
