Why Stride is bringing Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy into early learning

Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists play a critical role in supporting children’s development, particularly in the early years when the right support can make a meaningful difference over time.

As awareness of early development continues to grow, so too has demand for allied health support. Families are seeking guidance earlier, educators are noticing developmental needs sooner, and the value of early intervention is widely recognised across the sector.

At Stride, we see this every day.

Working closely with children and families, our educators are often the first to notice early signs that a child may benefit from additional support, whether that’s speech, communication, movement, or regulation. These observations come from strong relationships, consistency, and truly knowing each child.

A more connected way to support families

When questions arise, families want clarity, reassurance, and support. Navigating multiple systems, appointments, and providers can feel overwhelming, not because support doesn’t exist, but because it often sits across disconnected environments.

Rather than viewing education and allied health as separate experiences, Stride believes there is a powerful opportunity to bring them closer together.

That’s why, from 2026, we’re bringing Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy into our early learning centres, providing assessment and ongoing therapy within the care environment and fully included as part of the Stride offering.

This initiative isn’t about replacing existing services. It’s about strengthening the ecosystem around children and families, supporting earlier access, and creating more connected pathways between education and allied health.

How this will work in practice

Stride’s allied health professionals will be employed as part of our teams and work alongside educators within our centres.

When an educator notices a concern through everyday learning and care, families will be supported through a conversation, as they are today. From there, an internal referral can be made to Stride’s allied health team.

This allows children to:

  • be assessed within familiar early learning environments
  • receive individualised therapy delivered during their care day
  • access ongoing support over time, not just one-off recommendations

Where additional or external services are required, families will be supported with clear guidance and referrals, ensuring care remains connected rather than fragmented.

Importantly, this model supports educators as well. Educators are not expected to diagnose or provide therapy; instead, they are supported by qualified allied health professionals as part of one connected team.

Working alongside families and the broader sector

This integrated approach allows support to happen where children already feel safe, known, and supported,  while ensuring families remain connected to the broader health system when required.

By reducing the need for external appointments during work hours and delivering therapy within the care environment, this model also supports families in a very practical way, saving time, reducing disruption, and easing pressure during busy stages of life.

Where we’re at now

Stride is currently building this model carefully and deliberately.

We are:

  • recruiting Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists
  • preparing educators and centres for integration
  • planning a staged rollout across centres from 2026

We’ll continue to share updates with families as this initiative progresses.

A model we’re proud to invest in

We’re proud to be investing in a model that brings education and allied health closer together and reflects how families experience the early years in real life, interconnected, busy, and deeply relational.

By embedding assessment and ongoing therapy into early learning, Stride is helping to create a more connected, supportive experience for children, families, and educators during the years that matter most.

This is not an optional add-on.
It’s part of how Stride is evolving early learning.

Because early support matters.
